Brač sits just twenty minutes by speedboat from Split. The largest island in central Dalmatia, close enough to see from the Riva, yet a different world once you arrive. Stone villages, olive groves, and pine forests running down to the water. And at the southern tip, a beach that needs no introduction.
The Golden Horn. A white pebble spit that stretches into the sea and shifts shape with the wind and currents. One side calm, one side wavy — pick your preference. The beach appears on every Croatian postcard, every travel list, every “best beaches in Europe” ranking. Crowded in August, sure. Despite the crowds, the beach is still worth seeing at least once.
Bol, the small town behind Zlatni Rat, has enough restaurants and beach bars to fill an afternoon. Wander the old streets, grab lunch by the harbour; and rent a paddleboard. The vibe is relaxed — more local than Hvar, less polished, and arguably better for it.
Brač has more than one trick. Supetar on the north coast is where the ferry lands—a pretty harbour town with stone houses and a laid-back feel. Milna on the west side hides in a deep bay, popular with sailors, quieter than anywhere else on the island. Vidova Gora, the highest peak on any Adriatic island, offers views that stretch to Italy on clear days.
The coastline between towns is dotted with coves only reachable by boat. A Brač boat tour from Split can hit several in a single morning — swimming spots without sunbeds, beaches without crowds, and water without a single footprint in the sand.
Brač is famous for its stone. White limestone quarried here built Diocletian’s Palace in Split, the White House in Washington, and the Reichstag in Berlin. The quarries near Pučišća still operate, and the masonry school there trains craftsmen the old way. While it may not be a typical tourist destination, it is definitely worth a detour for those who are curious about the origins of things.
You can reach the island in twenty minutes by speedboat or ninety minutes by ferry. Not a hard choice. A Brač boat tour from Split makes the island a morning trip, an afternoon trip, or part of a longer route that continues to Hvar or the Pakleni Islands.
Custom-built speedboats, professional crew, stunning islands. Just pick a date.
